Aug 13 - pics from Dallas

Turns out that the only thing to see in “this” Abilene is the historic downtown. Some of the buildings were pretty cool, but nothing was open as early as we needed to leave. We left for Little Rock, AR which was to be the longest leg of our trip.

We decided that we would stop somewhere in Dallas for an authentic Texas Bar-B-Q lunch. We searched the internet for restaurant reviews and directions to some of the potential destinations. We came up with a really interesting one – “Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse Barbecue”. We went to the original restaurant, but they now have at least two other locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. They have won several awards, and have been written up in many food magazines. They were even featured on Rachael Ray’s “$40 a Day”. Apparently, when they are cooking the ribs over night and early in the day, smoke pours out of the windows of the restaurant. You can imagine how good it smelled when we walked in – that old historic wooden building, absorbing all that goodness since 1910! We ate at old school desks in a room filled with memorabilia. We had a real Texas adventure here!

On the road again, about 4 more hours until Little Rock!
