Aug 6, 2010 Rich's B-day and Segway tour

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Rich!!!

It was up bright and early today for our Segway tour of The Garden of the Gods red rock country! We were kind of nervous about how hard it would be, but we were very excited. Our guide gave us our instructions and then set up a practice course in the parking lot for us. We had to start, stop, turn, slow down and go up and down hills until we were confident enough to venture out onto the road. We were not allowed to get off the Segways under any circumstance until he helped us off. That was kind of scary because I knew I couldn’t bail if I freeked out! Once we got used to it, it was really fun! We rode around for an hour and a half and our guide was very good at “hovering” with us often and giving us great stories!

Next it was off to Famous Dave’s for Rich’s B-day lunch! We got a giant garbage can lid meal of ribs, brisket, corn, muffins, chicken, coleslaw, beans and fries! We were stuffed, and then they brought the B-day Sunday – WOW! After lunch, we drove to Amy and Kurtis’ house. This is funny because Amy’s family was in our backyard in California at the very moment that we were in her backyard in Colorado! We showed Erin around their yard because she had never been there before. We walked all around the wilderness area behind her house and talked about bears and snakes and how great it was to live in such a semi-wild part of Colorado Springs. We fixed the fence around her vegitable garden, and headed back to the car. As we were just driving away from the house, we saw a BEAR!!!!!! Right in the yard next to us! We were so excited, maybe too excited, because he looked at us and began walking away before we could get very good pictures L Wait,………he was apparently walking with us? YIKES!

We drove into New Mexico and pulled into a KOA in Santa Fe. We had left over Famous Dave’s and sandwiches and watched a movie (Sherlock Holmes). Tomorrow, we pick up LeeAnne, Paul and Bryan in Albuquerque.
